VET teacher qualification in Europe

Final conference of the VETteach project on 15 & 16 June 2022 in Rostock.

Within the EU-funded project "VETteach" led by the Institute of Vocational Education at the University of Rostock (Teaching VET educators for their different roles and challenges as innovators in Europe), VET researchers and lecturers from partner universities in Finland, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland exchanged views on their tasks in the initial and in-service training of VET teachers. Innovative approaches to five major challenges from an educational policy perspective in the EU served as guidelines for country-comparative publications and the preparation of further research and development:

(1) Civic engagement: ways to promote civic engagement and critical thinking in VET teacher training.

(2) Workplace-based learning: approaches through which pedagogical and practical measures can support student teachers to better integrate workplace learning into training processes.

(3) Continuous professional development: in-service training of VET teachers so that they update knowledge and skills in technological, organisational, pedagogical and social ways.

(4) Career guides for trainees and learners: measures on how teachers can support learners in career guidance and career management.

(5) Integration: ways in which teacher training can promote the integration of disadvantaged groups.

(6) Digitalisation: strategies of digital support for the previously mentioned topics.

After two years of intensive exchange, the major contributions presented at international conferences (VETNET, NordYrk, ECER, Stockholm International Conference) will culminate in the final international conference on 15-16 June 2022 in Rostock. In addition the results of the international comparative vocational school teacher survey on the perception of the challenges from the teachers' point of view will be presented for the first time.

As the host institution, the Institute for Vocational Education and Training at the University of Rostock invites all interested parties to discuss and exchange ideas on the design of an innovative, university-based VET teacher qualification.
