Lernen through Engagement – For the Vocational Orientation of Young People with a Refugee Background (in Cooperation with the JMD of AWO Rostock)

Project description

The teaching development and research project "Learning through Engagement" ("Service-Learning") with the Youth Migration Service (JMD) of the Workers' Welfare Association (AWO) Rostock and the Institute for Vocational Education (ibp) of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Rostock combines university-based teaching-learning processes with social engagement in the promotion of professional integration. From a university perspective, the offer is directed on the one hand to committed students of the study programs vocational pedagogy, teaching profession for special education and regional schools and on the other hand from the perspective of the JMD to young people with a refugee background. The aim is to identify and support the career orientation of young people with a refugee background on the basis of biographical case analyses and to identify problems and develop solutions on the basis of comparative observations. The teaching development project has been offered every semester since the summer semester 2017 and is currently being scientifically supported with own funds.
